Munser ‘A’ side named for opening clash of British and Irish Cup

Peter Malone has named his Munster ‘A’ side to take on Ospreys Premiership Select side tomorrow in Swansea

 

Eight of the side that beat Jersey Reds in last April’s final have returned to be named in the starting XV for the first round of this years B&I cup. At the same time, up to seven players could be set to make their debut’s for Munster ‘A’ tomorrow evening as Malone calls on a number of senior, academy and club players to take on the Ospreys Select side.

Ciaran Parker, recently signed from Sale, will make his debut in the front row alongside academy prop Brian Scott and hooker Kevin O’Byrne. Ronan Coffey and Sean McCarthy of Shannon complete the front five.

In the back row, Sean O’Connor returns at 6 from his injury picked up in Munster’s loss to Glasgow Warriors, whilst year 2 academy flanker Gavin Coombes and Trinity College player, Tom Ryan, pack down at 7 and 8 respectively.

James hart will make his first Munster ‘A’ appearance on Saturday as he partners the returning JJ Hanrahan in the half backs. Sam Arnold will make his first appearance for his province this year at inside centre and will be partnered recent Ireland 7’s international Alex McHenry.

David Johnston will captain the side from full-back with Stephen Fitzgerald and B&I Cup debutant Shane Daly making up the back three.

The academy’s Liam Coombes and his Garryowen team mate Mikey Wilson are named on the bench and could both make their competition debut tomorrow afternoon along with UCC’s Rob O’Donovan.

Replacements: Mike Sherry, Rob O’Donovan, Evan Minten, Mikey Wilson, John Poland, Bill Johnston, Liam Coombes.
