Munster add three new recruits to their Academy set-up

The Munster Academy has announced the addition of three new players from their Munster Development XV.

Out-half Tony Butler, back-three player Patrick Campbell and lock Edwin Edogbo have joined the Greencore Munster Rugby Academy as of yesterday.

Butler is a product of Ennis RFC and has progressed his way to the academy through the Munster Youths system. The 19 year old out-half captained Ennis at underage level and was also a talented hurler, representing Clare at minor level and was also a Harty Cup winner with St Flannan’s in 2020.

Butler has had a productive start with AIL club Garryowen, scoring 40 points in four games.

Back three player Patrick Campbell was apart of the Pres side which reached an underwhelming conclusion to the 2020 Munster Schools Senior Cup competition alongside fellow Academy member Alex Kendellen.

The Young Munster fullback has made a significant impact in helping the cookies become Division 1A league leaders. A talented footballer in a past life, Campbell was a central to Cork’s 2019 All-Ireland minor-winning side.

Campbell boasted a hat-trick of tries for the Munster Development XV against Ulster in September and was previously selected to be apart of the Ireland U18 Clubs & Schools squad.

The youngest of the three is 18 year old Edwin Edogbo, earning his stripes with Cobh Pirates RFC, Edogbo becomes the first player from the east Cork club to earn a place in the Academy.

Edogbo was selected for the Munster U18 Clubs team in 2019, after helping the Pirates reach the Munster U18 final. He has lined out for the Ireland U18 Clubs team and also bagged a selection for the Ireland U18 Schools side.

The UCC man trained with the Munster senior squad throughout pre-season last summer and featured for the Cork students in the early rounds of the AIL season, but is set for an injury hiatus due to an achilles issue.
