Munster run riot over Cell C Sharks in URC opener as fans return to Thomond Park

Munster were comprehensive winners over the South African side on Saturday evening in Limerick.

Munster claimed a bonus point win in their URC opener as the Red Army returned to Thomond Park for a competitive game for the first time in 19 months.

In the end, Munster were 42-17 winner as they crossed the whitewash six times.

Another returning to Thomond Park made an immediate impact as Simon Zebo dotted down for his first try since his return in the fifth minute.

On the stroke of the half hour, Carbery extended Munster’s lead with a penalty before the Sharks opened their account with one of their own.

Man of the Match Craig Casey dotted down on 36 minutes, dummying is way over from the back of a scrum. Gavin Coombes grabbed his first and Munster’s third just prior to the half with the home side holding a 20-3 lead going into the dressing rooms.

Last year’s top try scorer Coombes added his second within five of the restart, again showing his power close to the line.

The Sharks did respond with an intercept try but Ben Healy’s kick on 60 minutes left 20 points between the sides.

The South African side had their second try with ten to play but Munster finished with a flourish to seal an impressive opening day win.

Firstly, Chris Cloete powered over from close range before Zebo added his second on a near perfect second debut.

Munster face the DHL Stormers next Saturday in round two.
