Murroe Boher Manager Ray Ryan – “Probably the best thing that happened to us was to come down”

Murroe Boher are one game away from promotion back to the senior ranks as they take on Garryspillane in the County Premier IHC final this Sunday. Manager Ray Ryan has taken positives from his side’s relegation to the Intermediate ranks this year, claiming that his young side have regained their winning mentality.

“(It’s a) Great championship, every game is a battle, every team in the championship will give it everything. We learned so much from playing this championship.”

“We struggled at senior level for a few years. It would be great if we could go straight back up. Probably the best thing that happened to us was to come down to regroup, we’ve a young team with a lot of good young lads coming through. We have to get back to that winning mentality, which I hoped we’ve learned this year.”

Ryan’s side will need to overcome a Garryspillane side who defeated them in the group stages, the Murroe-Boher boss believes his side underperformed that day and is looking for payback at the Gaelic Grounds.

“We’ve been building all year, the results have been pretty good, the only game we’ve lost was to Garryspillane so it’s payback time on Sunday we hope.

“We’ve learned a lot from that (loss) because I believe you learn more from losing games than winning games. We didn’t play as good as we can play on the day, there’s more in us.”

The green and blues overcame Pallasgreen in the semi-final albeit in poor conditions weather wise, Ryan isn’t worried about how his side made it to the final.

“Semi-finals are for winning, it’s not about performing, once you get your result your through to the final and that’s the main thing but we know we’ll have to perform a lot better on Sunday.”

Ryan will have the chance to take his side straight back up to the senior ranks this Sunday but is expecting a tough battle against an experienced side.

“It’s going to be a great game. We’ve great respect for Garryspillane, they’ve a lot of experience, some great leaders played for Limerick from there over the years. It’ll be a tough game, a real battle like every game we’ve had this year.”
