Na Piarsaigh lose out in Munster decider

Na Piarsaigh have been beaten in the Munster Hurling Championship for the first time after been beaten by Ballygunner in the Munster final today.

The final score in Thurles saw the Waterford side secure a second Munster title with a 2-14 to 2-8 victory.

Ballygunner took a slender 1-7 to 1-6 lead into the break.

Kevin Downes had the games opening goal in the 4th minute before Stephen O’Keefe goaled from a penalty with the half coming to a close.

Ballygunner flew out of the traps in the second half and with 10 minutes remaining had opened a 2-13 to 1-7 lead with Pauric Mahoney netting a fortunate long range goal.

Na Piarsaigh battled to their credit and Shane Dowling reduced the deficit from a free with 5 minutes remaining.

That would be as close as they got as Ballygunner held out to seal the victory.
