New Mid West Tennis Cup Competition To Begin This Weekend

The Mid West Tennis Cup is a new competition for 10-18-year-olds in the Mid West region and kicks off this weekend. The cup is an inter-club team competition with U12, U14 and U18 events. CIAC, Ennis, Killaloe, Nenagh and Monaleen Tennis Clubs are all fielding teams.

Pre-teen and teenage tennis players in this region get very little opportunity to compete and be on teams and this new competition will give them that opportunity to play and compete with friends. Two rounds will be played before Christmas with a futher 4 rounds in the new year and a Finals day is scheduled for Saturday, 2nd March 2019.

This competition has three unique features:

1. Girls #ShowYourStripes
In line with the www.20×20.ie campaign, we are encouraging more girls to play with abonus point system. Each girl that plays gives their team a bonus point.

2. Fair Play is Sport. No Sport Without Fair Play
A principle of this competition is the www.fairplayinternational.org/home principles of Fair Play is Sport and there is No Sport Without Fair Play

3. 90-minute matchesOne of the criticisms of Tennis Competitions is the length of time it takes. For Tennis to stay relevant and keep players our offering must fit into their lives. In this event players play one match each with the 3rd set been a match tie-break, so matches should be finished within 90 minutes.
