New regional centre of excellence announced in Fethard Town Park

Munster Rugby and Fethard Town Park are delighted to today announce a new exciting partnership which sees the establishment of a Regional Centre of Excellence for Munster Rugby.

Fethard Town Park is an all-inclusive multipurpose shared municipal facility in Fethard, Co. Tipperary. In addition to being a community facility, Fethard Town Park will be used by Munster Rugby, Fethard Rugby, Tipperary GAA and Fethard GAA.

The partnership will see Munster Rugby’s underage and development squads have access to state-of-the-art facilities including a full-size 3G floodlit pitch.

Munster Rugby will also have access to a modern gym, changing room and meeting room facilities once the latest phase of Fethard Town Park is completed by the end of the year.

Munster Rugby Chief Operating Officer Philip Quinn said:

“We’re here today to announce our partnership with Fethard Town Park as a new Regional Centre of Excellence for Munster Rugby. We’ve had plans to have Regional Centres of Excellence right throughout the province and this is the first of its kind in that regard, so we’re delighted to be in a position now to announce that partnership.”

Head of Rugby Development Colm McMahon said:

“This new Regional Centre of Excellence will provide state-of-the-art facilities for young players right throughout the province.

“It is our intention to establish Centres of Excellence in different parts of Munster so that our footprint is widespread and that as many young players as possible have access to the best facilities. This will increase participation and further enhance the player pathway in the province.”

Speaking at the launch, Maurice Moloney, Director, Fethard Town Park, said:

“I am delighted Munster Rugby have come on board using this magnificent new facility as their Centre of Excellence; their involvement will be of tremendous benefit in developing rugby from grassroots to high-performance level.”
