Newcastle West exit Munster championship after Clonmel Commercials loss

Jimmy Lee’s men bowed out of the provincial championship after a seven-point loss in FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday.

Limerick champions Newcastle West exited the Munster Club Senior Football Championship on Sunday following their quarter-final loss to Clonmel Commercials in Thurles.

Jimmy Lee’s side were dealt a blow before the tie even began, as it was announced star man Iain Corbett would be unavailable to play.

And the west side got off to the worst possible start as Clonmel struck the back of the net after just two minutes, courtesy of Seanie O’Connor.

A tense opening half saw Commericals two points ahead at the break, as both sides produced some fine scores, with Newcastle West giving their all to keep the Tipperary side within reach.

Despite the best efforts of the three-in-a-row Limerick champions, a second goal for Clonmel put the game to bed, and they ran out seven point winners for a finish.
