Opinion: Picking a Limerick Football team without any of Billy Lee’s current squad

Billy Lee and his Limerick star have been near-perfect this year with seven wins form their eight competitive games.

Lee has built a competitive squad during his time in charge and they are now starting to reap the results they deserve.

An extensive squad with a vast number of different clubs represented has been developed under Lee.

However, if you had to pick a county team, with none of Lee’s current sqaud and choose only one player from each club, who would you choose.

Here is Jack Neville’s attempt.

Goalkeeper: James O’Mara (Fr Caseys)

Reliable shot stopper and distributor who has played at underage levels for Limerick.

Corner-Back: Mike O’Keefe (Newcastle West)

Not the flashiest of players with NWC but certainly one of the most effectve corner backs in the county.

Full-Back: Jim Liston (Gerald Griffins)

Not involved with the county panel anymore but has all the talent needed. Can play anywhere on the field.

Corner-Back: Stephen Walsh (Ballylander)

Represented his county in hurling for years and is as reliable with Ballylanders in football.

Half-Back: Cillian Ferris (Ballysteen)

Last years U20 county captain, terrific defender with an eye for a score.

Centre-Back: James Ryan (Galbally)

Has represented the county in both codes and one of the main reasons for Galbally’s promotion to the senior ranks in 2018.

Half-Back: Barry Coleman (Rathkeale)

Was one of the U20’s side that pushed Kerry all the way earlier this year. Another who could play in various positions.

Midfield: Gearoid Hegarty (St Patricks)

All-Ireland winner with the hurlers but also one of the best footballers in the county. Represented the footballers for a number of years before focusing on the hurling.

Midfield: William O’Donoghue (Na Piarsaigh)

Another with a Celtic Cross in hurling. Played underage with the county and is an excellent option in the middle of the park for the city club.

Half-Forward: Derry McCarthy (Drom-Broadford)

A consistent scorer for the West side with a number of county titles to his name.

Centre-Forward: Noel Callanan (St Kierans)

A strong and direct runner with an eye for goal. Has played for Limerick in the Minor and U20 ranks in recent years.

Half-Forward: Richie English

All-Ireland winner and All-Star in hurling, one of the main reasons why Oola reached the SFC final last year.

Corner-Forward: Brian Donovan (Monaleen)

Former senior panelist, the dynamic forward is a brilliant ball-carrier and well able to take a score.

Full-Forward: Adam Kearns (St Senans)

Injury has plagued him in recent years but Kearns is a huge man with great skill.

Corner-Forward: Mikey Lyons (Adare)

An integral part of the back-to-back-to-back championship winning Adare sides.
