After finishing fourth in the 2019 edition, Ryan was declared the winner on Saturday in the 60th anniversary of the comepetiton.

Against ten others, Ryan finished clear of defending champion Kiely who was seeking a three in a row. Kiely finished 6th with Cathal Kiely and Laois goalkeeper Enda Rowland making up the top three.

He becomes the fifth Limerick man to win the event with Vincent Godfrey the first winner in 1961. Pat Hartigan was the next Limerick man to succeed, winning a brace of titles in ’81 and ’83. Tommy Quaid was victorious in 1991 while Albert Shanahan won two titles in 2001 and 2005.

Limerick handball icon Martina McMahon competed in the camogie event where she finished fifth.
