This weekend sees the 4th Annual Pat Lawler Tournament take place on Saturday, in the UL Bohemians grounds in Annacotty. This tournament keeps alive the memory of a very special player who played for Bohemian RFC, Thomond RFC and also soccer with Limerick AFC.
Bohemians anticipate a strong competition this year based on the teams taking part. The teams will play in groups of 4 with teams progressing to play off for both Cup and Shield Competitions. This results in a wonderful day of youth rugby for both players and spectators. This promises to be a festival of rugby with no doubt some of those playing going on to represent their province and country.
You only have to look at the teams that have won the Cup in the past and names like Andrew Trimble, Ronan O’Gara, Keith Earls, Tom Tierney, Peter Stringer and Duncan Williams.
There are many local clubs who will be well represented always represented on the day with teams such as Tralee, Highfield, Sligo, Portlaoise, Kilkenny, Terenure College, St. Marys College, Waterpark, Clanwilliam, Wexford Wanderers Ballymena, Coleraine and Instonians having all taken part over the years.
Kick off is 11:00 am. It should be a fantastic day out, so if you can get down to Annacotty and support this great event.
Here’s a quick video of the Tournament in the past to give you a look of what its all about.
