“As people, there should have been consideration given”- Billy Lee hits out at Croke Park regarding fixture debacle

Last weekend the Limerick footballers were scheduled to face Wicklow in Division 4 of the National Football League. With a worsening in weather akin to the recent storm expected, the game was rescheduled for 24-hours later on the bank holiday Monday. However, with conditions once more unplayable the game was postponed once more.

However, it has emerged that the game may now not be played as Limerick and Wicklow are not in a position to be promoted. This is a stance that has angered Billy Lee, with the Limerick boss saying,

“They deemed the game not important enough to play.”

Lee was informed that the game had been called off a second time, on Monday morning with majority of his players in Limerick ready to travel to Aughrim. Lee has hit out at the disrespect shown to his players and also the memebers of the team behind closed doors.

“The way it was handled. The subsequent treatment of people… It goes beyond the people playing and managing the sport. There’s people behind that as well.”

“It’s really totally disrespectful to people who are working hard. It doesn’t really matter that we are down near the bottom at this point in time. It’s about treating people with disrespect. Everyone is putting in the same amount of effort and commitment.”
