Permutations | Five fighting for two quarter-final spots, top of the table undecided and trio in relegation danger in SFC

The final round of the Limerick SFC will take place on the final weekend of September.

There is still plenty to be decided in the Limerick Senior Football championship with just one set of games to play.

After the fourth round over the weekend, four teams have confirmed their place in the knockout stages while Ballylanders will contest the relegation final.

Three teams, Newcastle West, Fr Caseys and Adare are all on 100% records after four rounds while St Kierans are also undefeated. That quartet are already through to the quarter finals while two will move straight into the last four depending on the final round results.

Five are battle for quarterfinal spots, Monaleen and Claughaun in group one and Kildimo Pallaskenry, Galtee Gaels and Ballysteen in group two.

Galbally or Oola will meet Ballylanders in the relegation final.

Ahead of the final round, here is what each team needs to book their semi or quarter final berth or avoid the relegation play off.

Group One

Round Five Fixtures

Newcastle West v Fr Caseys

Galbally v Oola

Claughaun v Monaleen

Newcastle West: A draw will be enough for the defending champions to move straight into the semi-finals as they hold a superior scoring record to Fr Caseys. Defeat will see them finish second.

Fr Caseys: With NCW ahead on scoring difference, the Abbeyfeale side need a win in the last game to book a last four spot. Anything else and they will end up in second.

Monaleen: The win over Oola has pushed them back into third spot in the table, one point clear of final round opponents Claughaun. If they avoid defeat they will advance as third placed in the group. A loss will signal the end of their season.

Claughaun: Anything other than a win will see Claughaun fall short of the quarter-finals. A win will ensure they meet second placed in group two in the quarter-finals.

Galbally: A draw will be enough for Galbally to avoid the relegation final as they sit one point clear of Oola. Lose and they will contest the relegation final against Ballylanders.

Oola: If they fail to beat Galbally, then Oola will play in the relegation final. A win will be enough for safety.

Group Two

Round Five Fixtures

Adare v St Kierans

Ballysteen v Kildimo Pallaskenry

Ballylanders v Galtee Gaels

Adare: A draw against St Kierans is enough for Adare to once more top their group which would be the fourth time in five years. If they lose, then they will meet Claughaun/Monaleen in the quarters.

St Kierans: Need to beat Adare to top the group after their draw with Ballysteen. Guaranteed to finish in second at the least.

Kildimo Pallaskenry: Level on points with final day opponents Ballysteen, Kildimo Pallaskenry will be confident that a win in round five will be enough for a quarter-final spot such is their scoring difference. Currently on +6, they would need Galtee Gaels (-13) to beat Ballylanders and overcome that points difference to usurp the City side. If they better Galtee Gaels’ result, they will advance.

Ballysteen: Need a victory to move into the quarter-finals as they trail final round opponents KP on scoring difference with the teams level on points. If they beat KP and Galtee Gaels fail to overcome Ballylanders, then the West side will finish third in the table where they would meet Fr Caseys/Newcastle West in the final round.

Galtee Gaels: Currently fifth in the table, Galtee Gaels also need a win in the final round to advance. They meet a Ballylanders side who are guaranteed to finish bottom of the table. Their scoring difference means they need a favour from Ballysteen with KP the front runners for that quarter-final spot. If they win and KP fail to do so, they will advance as they hold a head to head over Ballysteen.

Ballylanders: Four successive losses means they will play Oola or Galbally in the relegation final.
