Pike FC’s U12’s look to cap their brilliant season off with a win in the National Cup Final

This week Pike Rovers prepare for a exciting weekend as the U12’s play in the SFAI National Cup Final against St Kevin’s.

An incredible moment for Pike Rovers, the coaches, the players and their family’s takes place this weekend as their U12 side will be going head to head against St Kevin’s for the national cup this weekend.

The whole team have travelled the length of the country in the pursuit of lifting up the trophy for Limerick and for Pike. The U12’s have notable wins in Mayo, Donegal and Dublin.

Most impressively the lads from Limerick put on a great performance in the semi-final in which they defeated Shamrock Rovers in front of a huge home crowd.

This will be the club’s first appearance in an underage National Cup since 1998 when Pat Mullally & James O’Grady’s team lost to Cherry Orchard in the U16 Final. This weekend the club will be hoping for a much happier outcome.

There is huge excitement for the coming weekend around pike fc due to the two finals that the club will be participating. U12’s Co-Manager Don Lipper makes it clear how impactful this campaign has been on the club and on the lads on the pitch and the experience of playing competition such as Shamrock rovers also.

“Its great as you can see around the club its busy out there all the players, the kids, their parents the whole club. The Junior team are out there, you’ve two finals in one weekend like it’s probably never heard of before.

“It’s where you want to be really, you want to be playing the best to see where you stand. There is no point in going into competitions unless you try and win them. We set out a five year plan a couple years ago and we are miles ahead of it at the moment and now we are in our first National Final so it’s great.

Pike FC’s other U12’s Co-Manager Frank Stewart, spoke about how great it is to have a Limerick side hosting a National Cup final as they are usually exclusively in Dublin.

It would be great for Pike to secure the trophy in Limerick.

“It’s massive notoriously they all go to Dublin it’s unheard of to have a National final in Limerick, but to be involved in it is even better again. It could be unbelievable to get to this stage look its easy to say that when you don’t know these kids, but we know these kids inside and out. It’s not unbelievable to us, its what they are capable of, its what they worked for and they have earned the right to be here and play in this National Final”
