The PFAI First Division team of the year stirs up a lot of debate on an annual basis and there are two players named in the 11 with links to Limerick football. There were five players selected from champions Cork City, two players from play-off finalists Waterford FC, 2 from Galway and one each from Longford Town and Treaty United.
Galway United centre-back Killian Brouder was a key part of John Caufield’s side push to the play-offs despite missing part of the season with injury. Brouder is a Newcastle West native and also lined out for Limerick FC under current Treaty manager Tommy Barrett in 2018 and 2019 before financial issues at the club resulted in his departure. The imposing centre-back was joined in the centre of defence by Ally Gilchrist in PFAI team of the year.

More importantly for Treaty supporters, star striker Enda Curran was also selected as part of a three-pronged attack with Galway’s Stephen Walsh and Waterford’s Phoenix Patterson. All three men were also nominated for overall Player of the Year. Curran enjoyed a superb season on shannonside notching 20 goals in a prolific season which saw the club reach both the play-off and an FAI Cup semi-final.
The goalkeeper was David Harrington of Cork and he was joined by club teammates Gilchrist, Barry Coffey, Kevin O’Connor and Aaron Bolger and due to their title charge this season, it was no surprise to see the Leesiders dominate selection. Furthermore, Junior Quitirna of Waterford and Dylan Barnett of Longford were selected by their peers.
