PREVIEW | Ahane and Killeedy do battle for Limerick Senior Camogie honours

There will be a new champion crowned on Sunday afternoon as the sides meet in a repeat of last year’s semi-final.

Ahane and Killeedy meet this Sunday in the 2022 Limerick Senior Camogie Championship final as both seek to get their hands back on the trophy.

Ballyagran will host the meeting with throw in at 2pm.

Elsewhere, Na Piarsaigh take on Cappamore in the Senior B final in Crecora at 11am on the same day.

Finals defeat has been the recent experience for both with Killeedy bested by Newcastle West in last year’s final while Ahane suffered at the hands of the same opposition in 2019.

That ended their reign as champions as they ended Granagh Ballingarry’s monopoly on the title in 2018. Killeedy were last crowned champions in 2020 as they overcame Newcastle West in the decider.

The sides meet in this Sunday’s final after a lengthy delay that saw the defending champions Newcastle West exit the championship.

Despite that, both of Sunday’s finalists had already been assured of their knockout places, finishing first and second respectively in group one of the competition.

Ahane kicked off their campaign with a win over Killeedy, that game finishing 1-18 to 3-10 in their favour. Ahane went on to beat Crecora and Cappamore to ensure their top spot. Killeedy responded with victories over the aforementioned duo to progress alongside Ahane.

In the semi-finals, Ahane were paired with Granagh Ballingarry while Killeedy were to face Bruff. Both finalists came through their last four ties unscathed, putting their respective opponents to the sword.

Ahane were 3-15 to 0-7 winners over their West opponents while Killeedy were 1-20 to 1-5 winners over Bruff.

As such, it promises to be a close encounter with both improving from the opening day outing where just a pair of points separating them.

And with no Munster championship for the winner, the stakes are even higher as the camogie campaign in Limerick comes to a close.
