Preview as Limerick SFC returns this week

Amidst the hype surrounding Limerick’s All-Ireland semi-final clash with Kilkenny this Saturday, the Limerick Senior Football Championship returns this weekend. There are a pair of games on both Thursday and Friday with the remaining games taking place next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Group 1

The standout fixture of the group takes place on Friday evening in the Bog Garden with the meeting of Adare and Ballysteen, with both sides on maximum points from their opening two games. Adare will be strong favourites heading into the game as they look to make it three from three in their search for three county senior titles in a row.

Also on Friday night, St Senans face Monaleen in Ballybrown. Both sides are yet to pick up any points and another loss this weekend will put them in real relegation danger.

The final group game takes place next Wednesday in Feenagh with the clash of Fr Caseys and Ballylanders. Both sides have a win and a loss to their name thus far with a win on Wednesday putting the winner in pole position to qualify from the group.

Group 2

Newcastle West and Galbally kick off proceedings on Thursday evening in Kilmallock. Newcastle have four points from their opening games while Galbally, who were promoted after winning the Intermediate championship last year, are yet to pick up a point.

Elsewhere on Thursday evening, West rivals St Kierans and Drom Broadford meet in Newcastle West. Kierans have one win to their name thus far while Drom are yet to get any points on the board with two heavy losses thus far.

Oola and Na Piarsaigh round off the group’s games on Tuesday when they meet in Caherconlish. Oola will be looking to cement their place in the knockout stages with a third win but a victory for the city side will see them move level on points with their opponents.
