PREVIEW | Catholic Institute look to snatch EYHL title on final day

This weekend Catholic Institute take on the Belfast Harlequins in attempt to force pressure on Pembroke for the title of the Women’s EY hockey league.

In Catholic Institute’s first ever season in the top flight of the Women’s EY Hockey League the Limerick side have certainly made an impact. Currently sitting second in the table ahead of the final round of games, the team can temporarily go first by a point over Pembroke Wanderers if they beat Belfast on Saturday as they tip off two hours before the table toppers.

The Dublin side play Muckross at 2.30pm, with neither Insta or the Wanderers ever winning the title before.

Insta’s 4-1 win at Rosbrien last weekend sent the title chase to a final day with the Dublin side needing just a draw to secure the title in Limerick.

Olympians Roisin Upton and Naomi Carroll have been two of the most exciting players to watch all season with the duo at the top of the scoring charts.

Provided they win against Belfast they will have the opportunity to cheer on Muckross later on the day hoping that their will be an upset.

Sunday, meanwhile, sees the women’s Irish Senior Cup semi-finals take place. Holders UCD are going for a fourth title in five editions of the competition but they need to be the first side this season to win at Rosbrien as they go to Catholic Institute – they did draw there on the opening day of the season, the one blemish to Insta’s home record.

Pembroke host Pegasus in a repeat of the 1975 final, the year the Dublin 4 side last won the title.
