PREVIEW | Limerick seek first Munster U20 Title as they host Tipperary in decider

The final of the U20’s Munster Championship will take place at the TUS Gaelic Grounds tonight.

Limerick will have the home field advantage in their bid to claim the U20’s Munster Championship as they welcome Tipperary in the decider this evening at 7.30pm.

To reach the final Limerick recently defeated Waterford in the championship semi-final 0-27 to 3-15 in a topsy turvy Gaelic Ground encounter. There is one change to that side with John Kirby in from the start for the final.

Diarmuid Mullins and his side look to avenge the tough loss they suffered to last year’s champions Cork in the Munster final last season as they fell to a two point defeat.

Limerick have gone through an impressive but difficult route to the final.

Limericks first game was against Clare and Mullins’ men were pushed all the way by a dogged Banner outfit. Trailing by three with time running out, Cathal O’Neill, in his only appearance before being ruled ineligible, struck for a rapid 1-1 to steal a 3-7 to 0-15 win for Limerick.

Limerick were much improved in a 1-25 to 1-17 win over Cork in a repeat of last year’s final with both sides already qualified prior to throw in.

The win ensured home advantage for Limerick in their semi-final where they paired with Waterford. The three point win in the Gaelic Grounds booked their place in the decider where they will face Tipperary.

The premier county defeated Cork in their last four tie as they seek a first U20 title since the claimed the inaugural championship in 2019.

Limerick on the other hand are yet to win at the grade with last year’s final their first appearance in the decider. Tipp on the other hand have appeared in each of the U20 Munster finals, 2021 aside.

The Shannonsiders are 8/13 on to take the title while Tipp are 13/8 outsiders.

The winners of the clash will also move onto the All-Ireland final where they will play either Kilkenny or Wexford who meet in the Leinster final.

Limerick face Tipperary in the 2022 Munster U20 Hurling Championship final on Wednesday April 4 at 7.30pm in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
