PREVIEW: Limerick U20s travel to Thurles looking for third successive victory over the Premier in Munster

Limerick take on Tipperary in the Munster U20 Football Championship quarter-final in Semple Stadium.

It will be a third consecutive provincial quarter-final between the sides with Limerick taking narrow victories from the 2019 and 2020 encounters.

Two years ago, in Jerry O’Sullivan’s first year in charge, Limerick came away from Semple Stadium with a 1-13 to 1-12 win.

Twelve months later, they repeated the feat in Mick Neville Park with a 0-7 to 0-6 victory.

O’Sullivan has named his side to take on Tipp, with seven of the players that started against Kerry in last year’s semi-final chosen in the XV. In total there are ten players from the 2020 set up involved.

Speaking ahead of the tie, O’Sullivan says that experience will stand to the side as they seek a three-in-a-row against the Premier County.

“You have groups of players coming forward from the academy that can step it up to under 20 level and that can only benefit Limerick football.

“The experience that we bring will benefit us Thursday evening. They’ve put in a lot of hard work in the last six, seven weeks”

Tipperary have also named their side for Thursday’s clash with manager Paddy Christie retaining three players from the 2020 side that started in Mick Neville Park.

The winners of the game will move in to the Munster semi-final where they will meet the victors of Clare and Waterford with Kerry and Cork drawn against each other in the opposite side of the draw.

The game has a 7.30pm throw in at Thurles but unfortunately there will be no stream of the game with the 500 allocated tickets selling out in hours when released.
