Preview: Mary I v LIT headlines Fitzgibbon Cup Round Two

After a hectic start to the competition last weekend, the second round of the Fitzgibbon Cup takes place this Sunday across the country.

Groups will take shape this Sunday with the final round of games taking place in the three team groups.

Mary I, LIT and UL will once again all be in action with the former pair facing off.

Mary I v LIT

Sunday January 19 at the Mary I Grounds

Last Sunday Mary I were victors against TUD while LIT lost out at home to WIT.

Those results mean that Mary I can eliminate their neighbours from the competition this weekend.

Mary I will be confident of reaching the knockout stages once more as they look to go one better than last year when they were defeated by UCC in the final.

However, these home derbies tend to take on a life of their own and LIT did come up against a star studded WIT side.

Nonetheless, Mary I’s experience and overall quality should see them into the last eight at the expense of the Moylish college.

UL v Trinity College Dublin

Sunday January 19 at the University of Limerick Grounds

UL will have home comforts on Sunday when they welcome Trinity to their campus, looking to avenge their round one loss to DCU.

Trinity were one-point losers to Maynooth in their round one clash and so the losers of this tie will be eliminated from the competition.

UL will be heavy favourites to dispose of the Dublin side and should have far too much firepower.

Cian Darcy had 0-15 for the Limerick college last time out and boosted by the likes of Kyle Hayes, UL should continue their campaign into the final round.
