PREVIEW | Monagea and Ballylanders do battle in the Limerick Ladies Senior Football final once more

Monagea and Ballylanders meet this Sunday in the 3Dental Limerick Ladies Football Senior Championship at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Both were victorious in their respective semi-finals over the weekend in setting up a rematch of the 2017 and 2018 deciders.

In the former, Ballylanders ran out 3-10 to 1-5 winners in securing a third successive title. However, the ladies from the West gained revenge twelve months later, claiming a first title in four years after defeating ‘Landers.

This Sunday, Ballylanders will be appearing in a first final since the 2018 reversal while their opponents have reached the final for the fifth successive year, falling in the previous two finals at the hands of St Ailbes.

But Monagea avenged those losses to the East side in this year’s semi-final with a comprehensive 1-9 to 1-3 victory in Clarina.

Catriona Davis and Karen O’Leary had early scores for Monagea with their lead out to eight approaching the half with Ailbes failing to find the target.

Grace Lee’s goal prior to the short whistle put the game to bed as they kept the defending champions at arms length to set up a final bout with Ballylanders who overcame Old Mill on the same day.

Path To The Final

Monagea

  • Rd1: Bye
  • Rd2: Beat Feohanagh/Castlemahon 3-16 to 0-7
  • Rd3: St. Brigids 3-10 to 0-4
  • SF: Beat St. Ailbes 1-9 to 1-3

Ballylanders

  • Rd1: Drew with St. Ailbes 2-10 to 3-7
  • Rd2: Bye
  • Rd3: Beat Old Mill 6-8 to 0-8
  • SF: Beat Old Mill 0-11 to 1-5

The south outfit, like Monagea, raced into an early lead which was 0-6 to 0-1 at the half. Old Mill did fight back, grabbing the only goal of the game but it wasn’t enough as Ballylanders secured a three point win to earn their spot in the decider.

Both sides have been fully deserving of their place in the final, with Monagea winning both of their group games comfortably to top the group before getting past Ailbes.

Ballylanders drew with last year’s champions before putting Old Mill to the sword and overcoming the same opposition in the semi-final.

Throw in this Sunday is 2pm as both teams seek to avenge recent final losses.
