PREVIEW | Mungret St Pauls look to break semi-final hoodoo as Na Piarsaigh stand in their way in IFC

The other semi-final clash is scheduled to take place the following weekend with Drom in hurling action this Saturday.

One half of the Limerick Intermediate Football Championship Final will be decided this Saturday as Na Piarsaigh and Mungret St. Pauls meet at the Childers Road.

The semi-final between the city rivals will throw in at 3pm.

Mungret come into the game off the back of 3-16 to 2-5 quarter-final victory against St. Patrick’s last weekend but were unlucky to be playing the match in the first place. The City side just missed out on the automatic semi-final spot, losing just one game in the group stages. However, that loss came against Drom Broadfordwith the West side advancing on head to head.

Na Piarsaigh, on the other hand, topped group one giving them an extra week to prepare for the semi-final tie. However, it has been a lengthy wait for the Caherdavin outfit who only played three group games, the latest coming in August. They picked up walkover wins over Bruff and Glin to go with victories at the expense of St Senans and St Patricks. A draw against Crecora is the only blot on their record thus far and they’ll be hoping to keep it that way come Saturday.

Path to the Semi-Finals

Mungret St Pauls

  • R1 – 1-8 : 2-4 v Pallasgreen (W)
  • R2 – 6-16 : 0-2 v Fr. Casey’s (W)
  • R3 – 0-10 : 1-8 v Drom. Broadford (L)
  • R4 – 4-9 : 0-12 v Rathkeale (W)
  • R5 – 1-15 : 3-6 v Gerald Griffins (W)
  • QF – 3-16 : 2-5 v St. Patrick’s (W)

Na Piarsaigh

  • R1 – 0-12 : 0-9 v St. Senan’s (W)
  • R2 – W/O : 0-0 v Bruff (W)
  • R3 – 1-5 : 0-8 v Crecora Manister (D)
  • R4 – 1-11 : 1-7 v St. Patrick’s (W)
  • R5 – W/O : 0-0 v Glin (W)

Na Piarsaigh will be looking to bounce straight back to the SFC after their relegation last year ending a seven year stint in the top tier where they reached the semi-finals in 2016.

Mungret, have been knocking at the door in recent years but haven’t been able to reach a final, falling at the semi-final stage four times in the last decade (2020, ’19, ’16, ’13).

However, the length of Na Piarsaigh’s wait for a championship game hands the advantage to Mungret in their search for a coveted final berth.
