The clash is the first of two SHC quarter-final ties to be played this weekend.
We’ve reached the knockout stages of the 2022 Limerick SHC and Doon and Kildimo-Pallaskenry lift the curtain this Saturday in Kilmallock.
The two sides will fight for a place in the semi-final that takes place the following weekend against either Na Piarsaigh or current holders Kilmallock.
It’s been a solid campaign for Doon so far who were just one win away from an automatic semi-final place in group one but finished behind 2021 champions Kilmallock on scoring difference.
Their loss came in their opening fixture against tournament favourites Na Piarsaigh but three wins on the spin redeemed the dropped points. The final game against Kilmallock decided which team would join Nap in the last four, with the eventual draw favouring the reigning champions.
It’s been a sensational campaign for Kildimo Pallaskenry who topped group two and have booked their place in the top tier for next season at just the second time of asking.
An opening round loss to Mungret St Pauls would prove to only be a bump in the road for the side as they won out their remaining games and booked their place in the SHC knockout stages for the first time since the 1930s. Those wins came at the expense of South Liberties, Ballybrown, Blackrock and Garryspillane.
Unfortunately for KP, 2016 was the most recent year Doon didn’t make it past the quarter-final stages in the competition and the East side have played in every knockout stage since 2012. Yet, despite their impressive record, Doon are yet to get their hands on the Daly Cup in their history.
Kildimo-Pallaskenry, on the other hand, have only one season at the senior ranks under their belt after winning the Premier Intermediate Championship in 2020. However, the 2017 IntermedIate kingpins showed once more their ability to adapt in their maiden season in the senior ranks as they claimed the 2021 County Cup.
Furthermore, regardless of the result on Saturday, the sides will meet in the group stages next season with the quarter final acting as a kind of free hit for KP.
Can Doon push closer to securing their first SHC title or will KP continue their rich run of form and make it to the semi-final in only their second year in the top tier?
The game will be streamed live on Saturday by Limerick GAA TV and you can purchase below.
