Report | Fr Caseys made to work in Galbally win in SFC

The Abbeyfeale side set up a final day showdown with NCW for top spot in group one.

Fr Caseys were made to work for their fourth successive win in this year’s Limerick SFC.

The Abbeyfeale men earned a 0-12 to 0-8 win over Galbally on Thursday evening to maintain their 100% start to the season.

They face Newcastle West next in the final round where the winners will advance directly to the semi finals.

It was 0-6 to 0-5 in Caseys favour at the half with a huge physicality to the game.

Free takers Martin Scannell and Eoin O’Mahony kicked off the scoring in Mick Neville as the exchanged the opening points.

O’Mahony gave Galbally the lead from a placed ball after Ger Quinlan grabbed their opening score from play.

Scannell kept Caseys in touch with a couple of frees while Dylan O’Shea got his first for Galbally at the other end.

Rory O’Brien kicked Caseys into the lead after 21 minutes with Scannell making it 0-6 to 0-4.

O’Shea reduced the margin to the minimal with a long range effort to end the half.

Dylan Quirke got off the mark early in the second half, a lovely curling effort off the left. A Scannell free gave them their first three point lead of the evening.

But Ger Quinlan, who was a constant out ball for Galbally kicked a pair of frees to reduce the margin to one.

Caseys replied with three on the spin, the pick of a bunch from Cormac Roche as he fired over from outside the 45’.

That had it 0-11 to 0-7 as O’Mahony and Eliah Riordan exchanged scores to close out the contest.

While Caseys will be battle for top spot in the final round, Galbally will need a result against Oola to stave off relegation.
