Report | Limerick continue winning start to the League with win in Antrim

Billy Lee’s men made it two from two with the victory in Antrim.

A 750km round trip wasn’t enough to deter the Limerick footballers as they continued their perfect start to the National League with a second successive win.

Lee’s men left Corrigan Park in Antrim with a 2-9 to 0-11 win to maintain their place atop the Division 3 standings, leading from pillar to post.

Limerick were dealt a blow prior to throw in with star performer from round one, Cillian Fahy ruled out through injury, with Tony McCarthy also crying off before a ball was kicked.

Nonetheless, Limerick hit the ground running and had quickfire goals early on to set the tone of the game.

Within the opening minutes, Limerick had their first green flag, Cian Sheehan finishing off a flowing move to the net.

Adrian Enright fired over a point in the aftermath with Peter Nash grabbing the sides second goal shortly after to move Limerick into an early 2-1 to 0-1 lead.

Limerick never relinquished the lead from here on in.

Points from Enright, James Naughton, Hugh Bourke and and Josh Ryan furthered Limerick’s lead which was 2-5 to 0-5 at the interval as the hosts gradually gained a foothold.

Antrim continued in this vein after the restart with the Ulster side reducing the gap to one score inside 13 minutes with three on the trot.

The gap was back to a brace of points with just over ten to play before Ryan had Limerick’s first score of the half to ease the pressure.

Nash followed this up with a crucial score, applying the finishing touch after patient build up from Billy Lee’s men to make it 2-7 to 0-9.

And with Antrim continuing to push for scores, Nash and Killian Ryan kept the Ulster side at arms length as they held on for a valuable 2-9 to 0-11 win.
