Report | Limerick U20s see off Waterford to advance to Munster football semi-final

Limerick move into the semi finals of the Munster U20 football championship.

A dominant Limerick U20 side booked their place in the Munster semi final with a comprehensive 2-9 to 1-6 win in the Fraher Fields.

Seamie O’Donnell’s side led for the majority of the contest with the Deise finding a late consolation goal.

They now welcome Cork in the semi final next Monday in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

With the game being a straight knockout, Waterford were first off the mark before David O’Shaughnessy replied from a free. The Ballysteen native finished with 1-2 over the evening.

Darragh Murray had Limericks first lead after seven minutes but Waterford found the retort this time.

That was the last time the sides were levels with O’Shaughnessy hitting the net from the penalty spot after 18 minutes.

O’Shaughnessy was fouled for the penalty after a brilliant defence splitting pass from Darragh Bridgeman.

O’Shaughnessy and Conall O’Duinn extended Limerick’s lead with points from play.

Waterford had a brace in reply but Sean Kilbridge hit the target for the Shannonsiders.

The hosts had the final score of the half with Limerick leading 1-5 to 0-5 at the break.

Limerick snuffed out any hopes of a Waterford comeback early in the second half with successive scores from Bridgeman, Jamie Baynham and Eoin McGrath.

That had Limerick six clear and Darragh Murray put the game to bed with their second goal, turning and firing to the net after an Emmett Rigter pass.

That came with twenty minutes to play as the game petered out with just three more scores including a late late goal from the hosts.

Limerick will have home advantage for their Munster semi final next Monday.
