REPORT | Na Piarsaigh return to senior football ranks as they see off Drom Broadford in IFC Final

The Caherdavin side spent just a single season in the second tier of Limerick football.

Na Piarsaigh will ply their trade in the Senior Football Championship in 2023 as they saw off Drom Broadford in the IFC Final in Askeaton today.

Goals from Kevin Long and Dylan Cronin proved decisive for the City side in the 2-8 to 2-6 win.

It was all square at the break with the sides coping admirably in the soft underfoot conditions following a heavy rain shower prior to throw in.

Both sides were slow off the mark with just a pair of scores inside the first ten minutes. Captain Cronin gave Nap their first lead after 12 minutes with Evan Egan then firing over a beauty.

But Drom restored their advantage, Jack Pierce pouncing after a mix up in the Nap rearguard to make it 1-2 to 0-3 in their favour.

The West side then conceded a penalty after a foul on Kieran Daly with Kevin Long making no mistake from the spot.

Drom replied with the final score of the half to leave it all square at the turn of ends.

Again there was a lengthy wait for a score, Kevin Noonan providing it ten minutes after the restart for Drom. This was followed by a score from Brian Ahern with the West side finding their first two point lead.

But teh Advanatage was wiped out when Gordon Brown found Cronin with an excellent pass with the star forward finding the corner of the net with an excellent effort.

Cronin and Daly kicked Nap four clear àpproaching injury time before Ahern struck for a well taken goal.

Drom couldn’t find the leveller however and it was Cronin that sealed the win with a brilliantly struck free into the wind to the delight of the Na Piarsaigh faithful.

They will face Roanmore or Ballimeena in the Munster Intermediate Football quarter-final on November 12 in a Limerick venue.
