REWATCH: 2008 Heineken Cup Final as Munster take on Toulouse

On Tuesday afternoon, Munster were drawn with Toulouse in the Champions Cup Round of 16 with the European giants to meet in Thomond Park at the beginning of April.

Between them, they have hoisted the European Cup a total of 6 times. Indeed they are just two of seven teams to have lifted the prestigious trophy on more than one occasion.

Their meetings in the tournament have been few and far between in recent years with the sides facing of just five times since the turn of the century.

Munster have had the upperhand in four of those meetings and crucially came out on top when they met in the final in 2008.

On that day, the Red Army collected a second Heineken Cup in three years after outlasting the French side 16-13 in the Millennium Stadium.

Jean Baptiste Ellisalde opened the scoring with a 9th minute penalty for Toulouse. Munster would strike the next blow as Denis Leamy crossed for the games first try with Ronan O’Gara converting after 31.

O’Gara had a penalty three minutes later to extend the lead but a penalty from Ellisalde on the stroke of half-time had the deficit back to 10-6.

O’Gara drew first blood in the second half with a 51st minute penalty. Toulouse response was immediate and emphatic as Yves Donguy dotted down and Ellisalde’s conversion making it a level game after 54 minutes.

There would only be one further score in the remainder of the game and it was O’Gara who notched it with his 65th minute penalty proving the difference.
