Richard Keogh Signs for Huddersfield Town

Republic of Ireland defender Richard Keogh has been unveiled by English Championship club Huddersfield Town this afternoon following much speculation surrounding the future of the centre-back. Keogh spent the first six months of the campaign with League 1 side MK Dons and impressed during his 18 appearances for Russell Martin’s side.

Keogh was offered the chance to resurrect his career which looked in danger following an incident while he was the captain of Derby County last season.

His contract was terminated for gross misconduct in September 2019 as the 34-year-old was the passenger in a car along with Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence which crashed following a team night-out.

He was ruled out for the rest of the season as a result of the crash and was sacked by the club following the incident in which Bennett and Lawrence were arrested for drink driving.

The contract with the Terriers runs until the end of the current season. Carlos Corberan’s side are currently 14th in the league table and 9 points off the play-off places.

Meanwhile, Ireland team-mate Conor Hourihane has agreed to join Swansea City on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season. Hourihane has found first team chances limited this season due to the performances of fellow midfielders Douglas Luiz and John McGinn.

Villa boss Dean Smith was reluctant to leave Hourihane go but understood his desire to play more games. The 30-year old central midfielder’s long-term future is uncertain as his contract with the Villain’s runs out this summer. Swansea are currently second in the Championship and trail leaders Norwich by just four points.
