Richie English set to miss out remainder of the season as Kiely confirms knee injury

Limerick star Richie English looks set to miss the rest of the 2020 season after suffering a torn cruciate against Galway in the last round of the National Hurling League earlier this month.

English, who was an All-Star in 2018 and a nominee again last year will undergo an operation to repair the injury.

Fellow corner back Sean Finn suffered a similar fate in 2016 but has returned to win back-to-back All-Stars as well as All-Ireland medals in both the Senior and U21 Championship.

After the victory over Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh earlier today, Limerick boss John Kiely confirmed the news.

Limerick legend Ciarán Carey says it will be a huge loss to Limerick but is confident in the strength of the squad to cope in the Doon man’s absence.

“Very sad and disappointing news during the week with Richie English doing his cruciate. Unfortunately that’s part of sport and the game and that’s what squads are there for. So it will be interesting to see where Limerick go from there.”

We wish English all the best in his recovery.
