Scarlets Second row Tadhg Beirne looks set to join Munster

The former Leinster forward is hoping to return home next season

It looks as if Munster have signed another second row to help fill the void left by Donnacha Ryan who left last season. The Irish times are reporting that former the former Leinster player is to turn down a new 2 year contract at Pro 12 champions Scarlets and return home to sign with Munster.

It is said that Beirne wants to return to rugby in Ireland to increase his chances of playing for Joe Schmidt’s national side. As is the case with any Irish players abroad, they are extremely unlikely to be chosen to play for their country, so long as they are not plying their trade at home.

The Ireland head coach is thought to be a keen admirer of the former Ireland U20 player who was such an integral part in Scarlets route to becoming the Pro 12 Champions last season, eventually beating Beirnes reported new club Munster in the final.

Speaking after their loss to Ulster on Friday night, head coach Wayne Pivac said “Tadhg had a standout game for us at the breakdown in Ulster last weekend, but he is one of about 20 players who are coming out of contract at the end of this season,”

It would be a great coup for the province, given their recent problems in the second row position with new South African signing Gerbrndt Grobler being ruled out until at least the new year.
