Sexton leads UL to Sigerson Cup win over DIT

UL got their 2019 Sigerson Cup campaign off to a winning start after seeing off DIT in Dublin on a 1-13 to 1-12 scoreline.

Most of the damage for UL was done by Clare star Keelan Sexton, who finished the contest with a highly impressive scoring total of 1-10.

Declan Brouder’s side will now play the winners of the game between UCD and CIT in the next round.

DIT led twice by two points in the opening half but Sexton’s goal put the Limerick college ahead 1-5 to 0-5. However, the home side were level at the break thanks to Ronan O’Toole’s goal.

Sexton continued his masterclass in the second half to help UL to three point advantage in the closing stages and they held on for the win despite two late DIT points.

UL Scorers: Keelan Sexton 1-10, (0-7f) Darragh Bohannon, Eoghan Lawless and Cormac Linnane 0-1 each.

UL: Sean Long; Michael Reidy, Joseph Mason, Frank Flanagan; Mark Abbott, John Cunnane, Paul Maher; Darragh Bohannon, Ultan Harney; Fionn McDonagh, Keelan Sexton, Joseph O’Connor; Chris Óg Jones, Plunkett Maxwell, Eoghan Lawless.
