SFC Round Up | Two more seal knockout spots with one relegation play off place confirmed after round four

Two knockout places remain up for grabs heading into the final round of the Limerck SFC after an eventful weekend.

Three teams remain perfect after four rounds of the Limerick SFC with four qualified as the football takes a month’s hiatus to allow for the return of the hurling.

In Group One, Newcastle West and Fr Caseys will meet in the final round with a place in the semi-final on offer for the winner.

Similarly, St Kierans and Adare are in the same boat in Group Two.

In Group One, Fr Caseys made it four wins in a row as they beat Galbally 0-12 to 0-8 on Thursday evening. John Colbert’s men were made to work, leading by a solitary point at the break. But the Abbeyfeale men proved too strong in the second half to maintain their 100% record.

Monaleen got their season back on track on Friday evening with a narrow 0-13 to 0-11 win over Oola. After falling to NCW and Fr Caseys, defeat would have been detrimental for the City side. On the same token, Oola remain pointless at the foot of the table without a point. However, they meet Galbally in the final round where a win will keep them safe.

In the groups final game, Newcastle West matched Caseys with a fourth successive victory, beating Claughaun 1-16 to 0-6. After his hat trick in round three, Mike McMahon was once more in goalscoring form, bagging the only green flag of the game as NCW led from start to finish.

In Group Two, Adare kept up their 100% record with a hard fought 1-7 to 0-9 victory against Ballylanders. Mikey Lyons goaled early for last year’s finalists but they struggled to put away Landers, who lost for the fourth successive game. Indeed the sides were level heading into injury time before the West men found the winner. The result means Ballylanders will contest the relegation final regardless of the round five result.

There was nothing to separate KIldimo Pallasknery and Galtee Gaels in the battle for third spot as they played out a 1-14 apiece draw on Saturday evening. With the Friday night result, a win would have confirmed a quarter-final spot for Galtee ahead of the final round. A Sean Casey goal had the South side six clear shortly after the restart but Peter Nash found the net for KP to give them the lead with it finishing even in Caherconlish.

Adare will meet St Kierans in the final round where the winner will top the table. Adare only need a draw to top the table after St Kierans and Ballysteen played out a stalemate in the final game of the weekend. Heading for a fourth win on the spin, Kierans led by four heading into injury time after Dylan Moloney goaled. But a Cillian Ferris green flag drew Ballysteen level as they kept their knockout stage hopes alive with the 2-5 to 1-8 result.

The final round of games will take place on the weekend Thursday September 23-Sunday 26.
