Shane Keegan has been unveiled as the new Academy Director for Treaty United. The club announced the news on their Facebook and Twitter social media pages on Tuesday morning.
Treaty United Chairman Conn Murray was keen to acknowledge the experience that Shane will bring to Treaty United. “We are very excited as a club to welcome Shane to the academy set up, his national league experience will be invaluable to us as we are still finding our feet as a league of Ireland club.
Shane will work across our academy set up, developing players, as we continue to support young local talent getting into our first teams.”
Keegan is happy to take on the challenge at the club.
“ The club and I have spoken at length and I am excited to add my experience, knowledge and work ethic to Treaty United. I look forward to working with the coaches and players at the football club, and with the new season on the horizon I look forward to adding to the building blocks in place, and continue to develop players who will progress toplay senior league of Ireland at the club.”
Keegan will oversee the activities of the Treaty United U14’s, 15,s, 17,s and 19,s both male and female.
Keegan’s appointment will be welcomed by many as he has managed both Wexford FC and Galway United in the Airtricity League Premier Division. He led Wexford to promotion in 2015 before joining Galway but he suffered relegation with the Tribesmen in 2017.
Most recently, Keegan was involved with Dundalk FC as assistant to Fillipo Giovagnoli. The Italian did not hold the relevant coaching badges and thus Keegan was brought in. However, in a strange turn of events, Keegan took the managerial reigns from Giovagnoli at the beginning of the 2021 season.
After a poor start to the season, Shane resigned as manager of the Louth side with Vinny Perth returning. The EA National underage league is due to begin next month.
