Shane Kelly names first Limerick U20s Football squad for Liam O’Connor opener

The Limerick U20’s begin their season in Rathkeale where they will have Munster opposition for the first round of the league.

Limerick U20 manager Shane Kelly has named his side to take on Tipperary in the first round of the Liam O’Connor Cup this Saturday, February 11 at 1pm in the Bog Garden, Rathkeale.

The Liam O’Connor Cup acts as a League for Limerick who begin their championship campaign at home to Waterford in the Munster quarter-final on April 10.

Captain Diarmuid Buckley (Fr Caseys) is named at centre-back while vice-captain David O’Shaughnessy (Ballysteen) is at corner forward. O’Shaughnessy is one of four that remain from the team that started last year’s Munster quarter-final. Aaron Neville, Padhraic McMahon and Eoin McGrath were also in the XV that were beaten by the Rebels.

Darragh Murray, Darragh Bridgeman and Zach McCarthy also featured against Cork and they are named among the substitutions for Saturday’s game.

Kelly has an extensive backroom team with Damian Fitzgibbon (Selector), John Walsh (Selector), John O’Grady (Selector), Mikey Lyons (Coach), James Kelly (Coach) and Dermot Dineen (Goalkeeping Coach) involved.

He has a panel of 32 to work with 17 different clubs represented. Mungret St Pauls have six on the squad while Newcastle West and St Kierans both have three.
