St Ailbe’s ladies football team are senior county champions following a dramatic victory over Monagea in Bruff.
The Paul Butler managed side came out on top against the holders on a 3-8 to 3-7 scoreline thanks to Eimear Ryan’s late free.
Monagea had the perfect start to the game thanks to a Catriona Davis penalty in the opening stages, but Ailbe’s fought back to lead by 1-5 to 1-1 at the break.
Meadbh McNamara landed their goal with a shot from distance that wasn’t dealt with by the Ailbe’s defence.
Ailbe’s then made a sensational start to the second half with quick fire goals from Ryan and Mairead Kavanagh, but Monagea hit back with two further Davis goals.
Monagea looked to have forced extra time through a Karen O’Leary solo effort, but Ryan’s free gave Ailbe’s victory.
In the junior final, Fr Caseys earned a 3-4 to 2-5 victory over Adare. Sarah O’Connor scored two goals for Caseys, while Sarah O’Brien also hit the target for the Abbeyfeale club.
Kate Geary and Sophie O’Callaghan netted goals for Adare, but it was Caseys that landed the junior title.
