St Munchins aim to bring Junior Cup back to Limerick

St Munchins take on defending champions CBC in the 87th Munster Schools Junior Cup Final today at 2pm in Thomond Park.

Munchins have won the competition 5 times and are looking for a first win in 20 years tomorrow. CBC can move joint second on the roll of honour should they win a 19th title today.

Both sides have been impressive in the competition to date, picking up three wins each. Munchins entered the competition as favourites but made hard works of their opening tie, defeating Bandon Grammar 12-3.

Yhey made light work of Clements in the quarter finals, running out 60-6 winners in a dominant display. In the semis the Corbally school overcame a tough assignment against PBC wining out 26-20 to reach the final.

As for CBC, they began their campaign with a well earned 25-3 victory over Arsscoil Ris of Limerick before disposing of Rockwell college 18-3 in the quarter finals.

In the semi finals, CBC faced off against Bandon who had recovered well from the defeat to Munchins. After a scoreless first half, CBC found their rhythm to run in three tries for a 15-0 victory to set up this highly anticipated clash.

Considering both sides form and pedigree heading into the final, it will no doubt be a close contest. However, the Limerick school will be desperate to prove their favourites tag worthy and may come away with a slender win.
