Success for Hayes at Nass before Racing Comes to a Halt

Chris Hayes took the riding honours on the opening day of the 2020 Flat season at Naas on Monday. He landed a double, sharing 8/1 winners with County Meath trainers Mick Mulvany and Ger Lyons.

The Mulvany-trained In From The Cold got the better of Johnny Murtagh’s Camachita by half a length to win the 7f Madrid Handicap. Hayes had scored on the same horse over the same course and distance on the final day of last season.

For good measure, Mulvany grabbed a further share of the prizemoney on offer with 13/2 chance The King Of Kells taking third place under Gary Carroll. The Shanagolden jockey then teamed up with the Lyons-trained Lemista to narrowly land the Group 3 Lodge Park Stud Irish EBF Park Express Stakes.

Lyons also recorded a 1-3 in the afternoon’s feature with Even So, the 5/6 favourite under Colin Keane, finishing a length behind the Hayes-ridden
