The Date for the FAI Junior Cup quarter-final draw announced

The draw for the quarter-final of the FAI Junior Cup will take place on Tuesday February 18th in Abbotstown at 5pm. Honorary Secretary of the FAI Junior Council Dennis Cruise contacted Limerick District League secretary Turlough McNamara with the details.

The quarter-final matches are scheduled to take place on the weekend of the 14th/15th of March.

Fairview Rangers are in the draw for the last eight following a 0-1 victory over local rivals Pike Rovers in the last 16 last Sunday afternoon. A solitary goal from Clyde O’Connell was enough to secure the win.

Jason Purcell’s men can be drawn against seven competitive fellow quarter-finalists including the much-fancied Usher Celtic who knocked out last season’s finalists Sherriff YC to reach this stage.

Westport United of Mayo will also be in the draw as they overcame Newpark of Kilkenny 1-0. Westport will be hoping to go one better this season after being eliminated by Aisling Annacotty in the quarter final last season.

Another possible opponent are Kerry outfit Killarney Celtic who defeated Buncrana Hearts in Donegal in their last 32 clash. However, Killarney must overcome the formidable challenge posed by Crettyard United in a last 16 tie first.

Athenry produced a great display to knock out Crumlin United to reach the last eight and fellow Connacht side Castlebar Celtic will be hoping to join them but the obstacle of Gorey Rangers stands in their way.

It wasn’t all bad news for teams from the capital as Rush Athletic were surprise winners over Greencastle in Dublin. Rush have also defeated Limerick side Rathkeale on their journey.

Ferrybank of Waterford were 2-0 victors over Trim Celtic and will now have a home tie with Oliver Bond Celtic in the last 16 to determine who will be in the quarter-final. Fairview are looking to secure their first FAI Junior Cup success since 2010.
