The Limerick Ladies footballers learn their Intermediate Championship opponents

Ahead of next months All-Ireland Ladies Intermediate Football championship, Limerick have learned their group stage opponents.

Limerick have been drawn in group 1 with Down, Sligo and Kildare.

Limerick qualify for the Intermediate Championship after winning the Junior Final last September and will be keen to add the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup to their collection at Croke Park on September 15.

The make-up of two of the four groups has already been determined, with groups 2 and 3 to be completed following next Sunday’s TG4 Leinster Final between Meath and Wexford.

The Leinster winners will be pitted in group 3 alongside Clare and Laois, with the runners-up facing Tipperary and Longford.

There are two groups of four, and two groups of three in the All-Ireland series, with two teams emerging from each group to contest the quarter-finals.

Limerick open their campaign against Kildare on the weekend of July 12-14.

The following week they take on Down before rounding off their campaign a week later against Sligo.

The top two teams emerge from each group to play in the quarter finals of the competition.

After the competition we spoke with Limerick manager John Ryan to get his thoughts on the draw.
