“There’s nothing won yet” | Kildimo Pallaskenry’s John Chawke on his side’s chance of qualification after Blackrock win

KP are one of five teams in group two of the SHC that can clinch a quarter-final spot on the final day.

After four rounds of the group stages in the SHC, it would have been tough for anyone to predict the circumstances ahead of the final round this weekend.

Five of the six teams are still in with a shout of finishing in the top two places of the group, qualifying for the knockout stages and potentially playing in group one next year if they finish first.

Kildimo Pallaskenry are one of these sides as they landed their third win of the campaign against Blackrock last weekend, leaving them joint first alongside Ballybrown.

The 2021 County Cup champions know a win will guarantee not only a quarter-final spot but also a place in group one for next year but veteran goalkeeper John Chawke isn’t looking past the challenge of Garryspillane this weekend.

“There’s nothing won yet, this is only another game same as the Ballybrown game last week, there’s nothing finished.”

“If we lose next week, the last two games have been, I wouldn’t say pointless, but it goes to score difference then to see who gets the first and second position so we’re going to go out there next week and we’re going to give it a hell of a lash.”

Kyle Hayes of KP stole the show in the game against Blackrock, notching ten points from play in a game that saw Blackrock relegated.

Chawke touched upon the excellence of the Limerick star, going as far to say he doesn’t think he’ll see a player of his calibre again.

“He’s (Hayes) something that I’ve never seen before and I don’t think we’ll ever see again, he’s just fantastic, an unbelievable player and an unbelievable captain for the club as well he’s excellent inside of that dressing room.

“He tries to get the best out of everyone, tries to get the best out of himself. It’s a pleasure to be standing in the same field as him.”
