“They’re champions for a reason”| Na Piarsaigh manager Kieran Bermingham anticipates tough encounter from Kilmallock in SHC final

Bermingham will be looking to add to his 2020 SHC triumph as manager with the Caherdavin side.

We’re counting down the days until Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock take the field at the TUS Gaelic Grounds to contest for the 2022 Senior Hurling Championship.

It’s been a dominant display this season so far from Na Piarsaigh, who have been favourites to take back their crown since the start of the group stages and are 4/9 to clinch the Daly Cup next Sunday.

The City side showed their class against South Liberties in the semi-final, with their 1-23 to 0-9 victory secured after an exceptional second period.

Na Piarsaigh manager Kieran Bermingham, who won the Daly Cup as captain of the side back in 2011, believes his side were excellent in terms of creating chances but took a while to find their scoring touch.

“To be fair to the lads, they created a lot of opportunities to score and we just failed a little bit on our conversion rate and once we corrected that, it was all about continuing to create those chances and thankfully the conversion rate rectified itself.”

It’s a familiar face that stands in the way of a seventh title for the side, with their opponents Kilmallock being a regular competitor and one of four dominant clubs in the Limerick hurling scene in recent years.

Although Na Piarsaigh are favourites to bring the title back home, Bermingham acknowledges that the Balbec are still the reigning champions and are so with good reasoning.

“Kilmallock, they’re a powerful team and they’re champions for a reason. They’re a really good hurling team, they’re a real physical team so we have to do everything in our power to match that, if we want to succeed we’ve got to match what they bring.”
