The charity cycle in aid of the Marie Keating foundation is the first of its kind in Limerick.
The Ladies@The Hub cycling group, which is the first Limerick all ladies cycling group, are hosting the Think Pink Cycle in association with the Marie Keating foundation on Sunday September 3rd. The cycle will begin from Ahane GAA club in Castleconnell and there is a 30km route via Birdhill or a 70km route via Nenagh. Registration for the event is now open and all the proceeds will go to the Marie Keating foundation.
The brand new Ladies@The Hub cycling group are in association with the also new, The Hub Cycling Club, which is a leisure cycling club in Limerick. The Ladies@The hub group was set up to provide cycling to women of all ages and ability and give them the chance to cycle safely as well as socialise. The members place a strong emphasis on camaraderie and fun as well as boasting 9 qualified female Cycle Ireland Road captains. The club also offers a resident cycling coach to help improve members abilities on their bikes.
The charity that is being fundraised, the Marie Keating foundation, aims to provide families with the essential information to prevent cancer or detect it at it’s earliest stages. Via its community information services the foundation, along with its dedicated nurses have informed over 225,000 people about the causes and the risk factor behind the disease.
Throughout the country the foundation is trying to expand its awareness campaigns at a local level through its community outreach campaigns as well as national campaigns about the most common cancers to affect both men and women. Anybody who finds themselves in somewhat of financial difficulty due to suffering from the disease can get help from the Marie Keating Comfort Fund which has so far helped over 526 families. Not only that, but the foundation also offers seminars and courses for patients who have beaten cancer via their Survive and Thrive programmes.
The committee of the Think Pink cycle are delighted with their sponsors saying
“This event could not go ahead without the generous financial support it has received through sponsorship and in particular, the main sponsor Centra Ireland, who are funding this event.”
The event is also supported by The Hub Bike for Life Store Limerick, Limerick Sports Partnership, Keogh, Ryan, Tierney Chartered Accountants Limerick, and Ishka Irish Spring Water.
The Ladies @The Hub Cycling Group and the Marie Keating Foundation would also like to acknowledge Ahane GAA Club Lisnagry, Eir Oig GAA Club, Nenagh, and Coopers Bar Birdhill, Co. Tipperary, who have all kindly provided their premises and support for the Think Pink Cycle.
