Three points for Broadford, Breska Rovers, Newcastle West and Rathkeale in Limerick Desmond League

There was a depleted schedule of games in the Desmond League, with the Premier Division the busiest division. All four games were probably won by the fancied side as the table begins to take a decent shape nearing the midway point. With three to get relegated, the current bottom three all came unstuck on Sunday. There was no drawn games this weekend. Elsewhere, the Desmond Cup draw took place, with some interesting ties, set to take place next weekend.

Weekly Observer Premier Division

Kilcornan 0-2 Rathkeale AFC
Timmy Hogan and Mikey Morrissey accounted for the goals as Rathkeale saw off Kilcornan. The home side have drawn many games and this was just their second defeat in league action. Rathkeale maintain their top place, keeping another clean sheet in the process.

Newcastle West Town 2-0 Creeves Celtic
A goal in either half helped Newcastle West to another home three points against Creeves. Darren Lawlor and Dylan Moloney, as Celtic finished with 10 following a straight red card shown to their attacker.

Broadford Utd 1-0 Abbeyfeale Utd
A fourth goal in three games for the reliable Michael Brosnan was enough for Broadford to inflict another loss on Abbeyfeale United. Jack Pierce worked a short corner with Brosnan who fired home from a tight angle. Abbeyfeale did create some openings in the second half, with Pakie O’Connor off target with the pick of those. In the end, Broadford were able to hold on and keep some sort of pace behind Rathkeale who’ve played a few more games than them.

Breska Rovers 6-4 Granagh Utd
There was no shortage of goals in Clarina. Breska never trailed in this tie but were pushed all the way by Granagh United. Mark Moroney and Keith McNicholas had them 2-0 up but United had this level at 2-2 by half-time. Darragh O’Sullivan had it 3-2 but Granagh replied. Moroney again restored the lead but soon it was four each. Breska finished the stronger with sub David Hall and an own goal helping them over the line. Granagh finished with 10 following a late dismissal, for two yellows, of a defender.

Weekly Observer Division 1
Shannonside FC 2-1 Askeaton AFC
Despite playing 80 minutes with ten men, Shannonside kept their interest in the league title alive with a hard-fought win over Askeaton. Jeff Duggan put Askeaton into the lead early in the second half. But the home side equalised through Fernando Semedo before Pedro Tavares dispossessed Askeaton’s centre back and lobbed keeper from 40 yards with just three minutes left.

Weekly Observer Division 2
Abbeyfeale Utd B 1-0 Glantine
This local derby went the way of Abbeyfeale, who had a Josh Quinlivan penalty to thank for the win. It was around this time last year that Abbeyfeale put in a decent run and something similar could keep them in touch at the top of the third tier.

Knockaderry 2-1 Ballingarry B
Another clash of near neighbours, with Knockaderry shaking up the table with a win over league leaders Ballingarry B. Trailing 1-0 during the second half, Knockaderry netted twice in the closing stages through Evan Lenihan to take the spoils.

Weekly Observer Division 3
Shannonside FC B 0-1 Feenagh
A first half goal from Ronan O’Connor was enough for Feenagh to claim all three points away to bottom of the table Shannonside B
