Treaty United Extend Unbeaten run to 6 games

Treaty United extended their unbeaten run to 6 league games with a hard earned 0-0 draw with Longford Town at Bishopsgate. In a game of few chances, Treaty kept a valuable clean sheet and are now in fifth place in the league table with one less league game played than many of their close rivals.

Tommy Barrett made two changes to the team who beat Wexford FC 2-1 on Monday night with Matt Keane and Sean Guerins returning in place of Joel Coustrain and Joe Gorman. However, Gorman was called into action after just 7 minutes due to an injury to Mark Walsh.

Longford created the first chance of the game when Darren Craeven’s shot went narrowly wide before both sides traded a couple of corners. Striker Sam Verdon thought he had given Gary Cronin’s side the lead but the goal was ruled out for offside. Moments later, Jack Brady was called into action to deny Shane Elworthy’s brilliantly struck volley.

Longford’s midfielder Aaron Robinson got his head to a cross from the right but he could not direct it goalwards. Ten minutes before half-time, Treaty had their first clear cut chance of the game as Enda Curran pounced on a loose pass before beating a defender but he was denied by Luke Dennison.

Brady was called into action on the hour mark to deny both Robinson’s stinging effort and Verdon’s follow up attempt. Dean McMenemy was next to try his luck for the home side but Brady tipped his looping header over the crossbar. Robinson and Craeven each had shots for the home side which failed to trouble Brady as we entered the dying embers.

Treaty were awarded a free-kick in injury time but Dennison denied Marc Ludden’s effort and it proved to be the last action of the game. On the balance of chances, Longford were least satisfied with the outcome but it was solid performance from Treaty who frustrated their opponents and had a couple of big chances through Curran to take all three points.

Treaty now enter two consecutive games against the top two sides in the Airtricity League First Division with Galway visiting the Markets Field on Friday night while Treaty travel to face Cork City at Turners Cross on Monday week with a 5pm start.
