Treaty United picked up their first victory in over three months on Friday evening, as they defeated Longford Town 1-0 at the Markets Field in the League of Ireland First Division.
Despite the three points, the Shannonsiders lay in eighth place in the table, but they have cut the gap to the playoff positions to seven points.
Longford remain rooted to the bottom of the table, with just 12 points and two wins all season.
The big news is that Tommy Barrett’s men have snapped what turned into a 14-game winless run, as they picked up their first victory since March 1st, courtesy of a late strike from Mark Byrne.
There were chances at both ends in the first-half as the sun glared down on the Garryowen venue, although nothing too threatening. Perhaps Byrne came closest for the hosts after 36 minutes, although his powerful effort flew over the bar.
Jordan Adeyemo went one better than Byrne five minutes from the break, as his free-kick attempt actually went over not only the bar but also the away stand and into the streets of Limerick.
