Jack Brady has returned to Shannonside following a two-year stint with Shelbourne FC. The news came at the perfect time for the club as Brady will become a direct replacement for Tadgh Ryan who has signed for Premier Division outfit Bohemians. It will be big boots to fill for the Ballina native as Ryan was voted the Treaty United player of the year in 2021 and produced some superb saves as the club reached the play-offs.
However, Brady will be hoping to gain the number one spot at Treaty following two years as understudy to both Colin McCabe and Brendan Clarke at Shelbourne. Brady made just one appearance during Shelbourne’s run to the First Division title in 2021 and may have been disappointed at the signing of Clarke following McCabe’s departure in 2020. Brady made 8 appearances in 2020 and would have expected to keep a starting place in the second tier with Shelbourne after he excelled at that level in 2019 with Limerick FC.
Jack signed for Limerick FC in 2018 and following a battle with Tommy Holland became the club’s preferred goalkeeper. During a difficult 2019 for Limerick FC, the netminder showed his shot-stopping capabilities to keep the side in contention for a place in the play-offs until off-field drama curtailed their progress. His distribution is also highly thought of by Tommy Barrett and he has started every pre-season game so far.
Brady will commute from Dublin where he is a secondary school teacher and will compete with recent signing Conor Winn for the number one jersey although he will be favourite to begin the season as number one in Wexford on Friday week. The only possible weakness in Brady’s armor is his lack of height which can make him susceptible at set-piece time but as Tadgh Ryan showed last season, physicality isn’e everything.
Conor Winn signs for Treaty following an exile from Airtricity League football since he left Galway United in 2018. He burst on to the scene as a young goalkeeper with Galway at the age of 18 having played with renowned local clubs Salthill Devon and Mervue United.
At 6″6, Winn is an imposing figure between the sticks and following Galway’s brief departure from the league, he signed for Shamrock Rovers in 2012 but didnt make an appearance before his departure in July of that year.
Between 2014 and 2016, Conor made a consistent amount of appearances for both Finn Harps and Galway United. He made 21 appearances for Harps in the First Division and he played over 40 times for the Tribesmen in the Premier Division under Tommy Dunne.
