Treaty United have strengthened their defensive options ahead of the new season with the news that centre-back Joe Gorman has signed.
Gorman spent the second half of last season with Galway United after he transferred to the Tribesmen from Premier Division club Longford Town in July. He was unable to help John Caulfield’s side gain promotion to the top flight as they were defeated by Bray Wanderers in the play-off semi-final.
Treaty announced the news on the club’s official Twitter page this evening.
The 27 year-old helped Longford Town earn promotion to the Premier Division in 2020 as he was an integral part of Daire Doyle’s squad as they won the Promotion/Relegation play-off campaign beating Galway and Shelbourne along the way.
Gorman had originally signed for Northern Irish Football League Premier side Portadown at the beginning of this month but the contract was cancelled almost immediately due to a controversial tweet the defender made many years ago in relation to the Orange Order and only came to light following his unveiling. Gorman has since deeply apologised for the tweet which was made when he was 19 years old.
The commanding centre-back is a welcome and timely addition with the news earlier this month that Anthony O’Donnell would not be returning until at least July. The former Drogheda man is a threat from set-pieces and will add much needed experience to the squad.
