Treaty United Senior Women’s side earned their first point of the season as they came from behind early on to score three goals and restore parity. In truth, manager Niall Connolly will be disappointed that they didn’t leave the Midlands with all three points as they were ahead on two occasions.
Following last week’s heavy defeat to Bohemians, Treaty made a disastrous start in Lissywoolen as they fell behind in the opening ten minutes but two quick fire goals from sisters Rebecca and Aoife Horgan put the visitors ahead.
The goal fest continued as Treaty were pegged back just two minutes later as the home side were awarded a penalty kick and Michaela Mitchell was given no chance to save.
The first-half goal glut continued as Rebecca Horgan grabbed her second goal of the evening with a great run and cool finish to give Connolly’s charges the lead at half-time.
However, on the hour mark, Athlone equalised once again as a fine run from Katelyn Keogh was picked out and she beat Mitchell at her near post. It was to be the last goal of an entertaining encounter.
The team had to show great character as substitute Jenna Slattery was dismissed for two yellow cards with twenty minutes to go but the away side hung on for a valuable point.
Treaty will play their first home game against Wexford at Jackman Park in two weeks time.
